An Introduction To The Chamber

The Tanzania Chamber of Mines was established in 1994 and represents the private participants in the Tanzanian mineral sector. Our membership, now close to 60, includes a broad spectrum of key players in the mining industry including small-scale miners, individuals, small, medium to the largest international mining companies in the world who have identified Tanzania as a worthwhile place to invest their money. These companies are carrying out exploration and some have even commenced mineral production.   The Chamber, as the voice for the industry continues to play a pivotal role within the sector as a mediator between the mining investment community and key stakeholders, most notably the Government of Tanzania and the public.    The Chamber continues to gain recognition and credibility as a representative body for the private sector in the mining industry and has to associate with some organizations in various ways such as:  Tanzania Private Sector Foundation (TPSF)/Tanzania National Business Council (TNBC). The Tanzania Private Sector Foundation (TPSF) is a coordinating body for representing private sector associations and the Tanzania National Business Council (TNBC) is a forum for dialogue between private sector and the Government whose Chairman is the H. E. the President. The Chamber has a seat on the Board of the TPSF represented by the Chairman. The Chamber is also represented in the National Business Council.    The Chamber is also a member of the Mining Industry Associations of Southern Africa (MIASA). The MIASA secretariat is located in South Africa at the South African Chamber of Mines and its members meet twice a year where issues of common interest to the mining industry in the SADC region are discussed and conveyed to SADC governments for consideration and adoption. The current members of MIASA are; Chamber of Mines of Tanzania, Chamber of Mines of South Africa, Chamber of Mines of Zambia, Chamber of Mines of Namibia, Chamber of Mines of Zimbabwe, Chamber of Mines Botswana and the Federation of Swaziland Employers.
